New and exciting changes are happening...

It's about time I get on my blog to update everyone! My blog is well overdue for an update on the latest in the Baune family! At the end of June we packed up the house and moved across the country back to the heart of California! We have been praying for so long for an opportunity to be closer to home while Karl finishes up chiropractic school and it was clear to us that God wanted us back in Ca! We were both super excited! It was the best decision for us to move back to be closer by our loved ones, especially with our new addition coming soon! In January 2011 we will welcome our new bundle of joy into the world! I am 16 weeks along now, almost 17. I have lost a lot of energy and spend most of my free time resting, so not a lot of time is spent doing things I love like updating my blog.

Everett is now 20 months, going on 2 really soon! We have already encountered some stages of the terrible two's which is quite challenging. I cant find the words to describe the love and joy he brings to our family. I am beyond blessed that God gave Karl and I such a happy and good little man. I am honored that God has given us this huge responsibility to care for and to raise up as a follower of Jesus. It has been an experience for sure and everyday is a new day! I can not wait for Everett to have a little brother or sister and to teach the baby new things and be a great leader! We are praying for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby!!!

Spring Break Atlanta Style

I am long overdue for posting a new blog. Life has been crazy busy the past few weeks with Karl studying for finals to my mom's visit to Atlanta for spring break. Life is starting to be a little normal again. Karl, Everett and myself had the privilege of having my mother come out to Atlanta for her spring break at the last minute. My mother-in-law was planning on visiting us, but could not make it out. Although we were sad that she could not visit, we were happy to have my mom come out too. It's been since January that we last saw my mom when we were in Fresno for Christmas break. So it was great to have her here to share Karl's break with and to actually have family here for Easter. We got to go on a few walks while the weather was decent and not too hot. (One time it was probably 40 degrees during our walk. Karl said to grab a sweater, but I should have grabbed a jacket!) Then it eventually warmed up into the mid to high 70's. Seems like we jumped from winter to summer right away. We also did some shopping, barbecued, went to the Georgia Aquarium, went to dinner several times and out to lunch, went to church, played with Everett outside, visited Piedmont Park to take pictures, went to the Marietta Square, had an Easter egg hunt, played peek a boo tons of times, Mimi played with Everett and made him crack up, Mimi babysat Everett while Karl and I went on a date! That date was long overdue! We took a picnic to a park and enjoyed the sun then saw a movie, Dear John at the dollar theater. It felt so great to have some time alone with my husband! Great overall visit with my mom, but sad to see her leave. Thanks mom for all you did for us and for the time you spent with us! Everett sure warmed up to you very fast again.

A lot of pictures above, but this is what happens when I don't stay ontop of my posts! :)

Healthy Living

For those of you who know me well, know that I am very passionate about healthy living, great nutrition and treating your body like God's temple. If I ever go back to school it will to get a degree in nutrition.

I am not perfect, but I try my best to live a healthy life style. I do love to indulge in sweets every now and then. I do believe that sweets are ok in moderation. naturalnews.com is one of the best websites out there about living a healthy lifestyle. I believe that God has given me wisdom and having my husband go through chiropractic school has opened my eyes to a lot about how our body works and the best ways to treat our body when we become ill. I am learning vicariously through Karl and his amazing education! HAHA!

First of all eating a healthy, well balanced diet is most important. Lots of raw fruits and vegetables! Second, getting daily exercise is very important to great health. It gives you energy, helps reduce stress and anxiety and just makes you feel great... and keeps those pounds off. Third, chiropractic care!

Before meeting my husband I used to believe that chiropractic was for people who have had injuries or been in auto accidents or have had back pain or suffer from head aches. Although, chiropractic care is great and has helped millions of people, probably billions of people with pain, it is a wellness care too. People take the spine which is a vital component of our body for granted. Getting regular chiropractic adjustments helps to maintain a healthy balance in our body and keep the physical, chemical and mental stress of our day to day lives under control. If you get adjustments on a regular basis your body is much more likely to fight off diseases and sicknesses. Your spinal cord is attached to many organs and parts in your body. If your spine is out of place or sublexated there is a greater chance that your body and immune system will not fight off sickness. I have heard this saying before, "The power that made the body can heal the body." This is so true!

I am so passionate about chiropractic care. Not just because my husband is becoming a chiropractor, but because I truly believe it is one of the best things you can do for yourself! For those of you who have read my blog this far, I hope this has opened your eyes and you consider getting proper chiropractic care! If your insurance does not cover it or if you don't have insurance, most Dr.'s will work with you on a payment plan and are very affordable. Keep your spine aligned!:)

Chicken Tortilla Soup

I am a super huge fan of soup and I usually make this soup once a month! Even in the summer months. It's that good and healthy too! It is even great to eat for lunch the next day!

Ingredients:
3-4 organic chicken breast
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 large organic onion, chopped
2 tablespoons minced garlic
1 organic green bel pepper, chopped
1/2 bag of frozen organic sweet corn
2 boxes of free range organic chicken broth
1 14 oz can of fire roasted tomatoes
14 oz of raw black beans (pre soaked and pre cooked before hand)

ground chili powder. as much or as little as you like.
2 organic limes juiced and more for garnish
salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 large wheat tortillas cut into thin strips and grilled with grape seed oil spray
2 avocados cut for topping on soup
sour cream
organic mexi-style cheese blend

Heat a pan to med heat and cook the chicken breast until cooked all the way through. In a large pot heat olive oil and cook onions and bel pepper and garlic. Add the broth, beans, corn, tomatoes, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to low and let the soup cook for 25 minutes. Add lime juice and stir. Add chicken and cook on low heat for another 10 min. Serve soup in a bowl and top with cheese, tortilla strips, sour cream and avocados and enjoy every bite!
